Ecumenical from our founding in 1858, Lake Street Church’s story embodies the desire to experience unity in diversity.

From the beginning, we have been members of the American Baptist Churches – USA and Metro Chicago. This mainline Protestant denomination strives to live out the principles of individual soul liberty, local church autonomy and voluntary association with those of like and different mind. Throughout our history, LSC members have been represented in local and national denominational leadership, often bearing a progressive witness on the issues of the day.

Lake Street Church is comprised of lifelong Baptists as well as those who personally eschew that or any label. We regularly embrace the wisdom and practices of the world’s religions in worship, education and social justice engagement. The fruits of this journey include cooperative projects and deepening friendships with neighbors in Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist, Hindu and other communities.
